Sector: Legal/regulatory services
Context: British Solicitor’s Regulatory Authority (SRA)
Capability area: Data migration, ERP readiness, reconciliation, reporting, case-management enablement
Challenge
A regulatory organisation needed to migrate sensitive operational data from legacy SQL Server 2008 environments into a new ERP platform based on Microsoft Dynamics AX. The migration was part of a wider move toward improved project management, case management, operational reporting and management visibility.
Delivery contribution
The engagement required structured data mapping, dry-run migrations, reconciliation exercises, duplicate checks, ID validation, rollback planning and failure-handling preparation. The work had to protect data integrity while supporting the business transition from legacy siloed systems into a more modern enterprise platform.
Complexity
The main risk was not simply moving data. The real challenge was ensuring that sensitive records remained accurate, traceable and usable after migration. This required careful mapping between old and new data models, validation of identifiers, controlled dry runs and planning for failover or rollback scenarios.
Outcome
The migration programme supported the organisation’s transition toward a more modern ERP and reporting environment. Legacy data was later siloed and archived, while the new platform improved the organisation’s ability to manage operational information.
Relevance to Government
This is directly relevant to e-registry, case-management and workflow-modernisation programmes where MDAs need to move from fragmented legacy data into a unified platform without losing auditability, record integrity or operational continuity.
